I am a wife, mother, grandmother, retired teacher, and esophagial cancer survivor. Google that diagnosis and you’ll start planning your funeral. Throat cancer, according to research I’ve done, is the fastest growing cancer diagnosis in the United States. Sixteen thousand new victims each year. Yet no one hears much about it. It hasn’t got a ribbon. There’s no walk for the cure. There’s just a growing list of obituaries for victims of this cancer. Or so it would seem. But I am proof that esophagial cancer is not always a fatal diagnosis. And I want to share my recovery with anyone who is fighting this cancer or who has a family member undergoing treatment. Speaking of family, mine includes two daughters, four grandsons, two stepsons, a step-granddaughter, and Chunkster aka Luke, the coolest cancer cat on the planet. My husband and I are aspiring hillbillies, living in our mountain home in northern Arkansas. We bought it last year, three months before my diagnosis. It has sat empty most of the time, waiting on the outcome of my treatment. And the outcome is what this blog is all about. The journey from no hope to this joyous celebration of life after esophagial cancer. And this blog is an invitation to anyone going through throat cancer to share their experience here. Cancer…just one syllable short of what you must believe. Can (able to) Sur (rise above) Vive (Latin based word mean “to live”) Yes, you can survive esophagial cancer.
